In the cyclic nature of time according to Hindu cosmology, the universe undergoes periods of creation and dissolution. Matsya Avatar is the first of the Dashavatara (ten incarnations) of Lord Vishnu. This avatar took place during the Satya Yuga, specifically at the end of the Chakshusha Manvantara, when a massive deluge (Pralaya) threatened to wipe out all life and the sacred Vedas.,

The Origin Story: King Satyavrata and the Tiny Fish

Millions of years ago, there lived a pious king named Satyavrata (later known as Manu). One day, while performing his morning prayers and offering water (Arghya) in the Kritamala River, a tiny fish swam into his palms.

• The Plea: The little fish spoke to the King, "O King, do not throw me back into the river. The larger fish will eat me. Please protect me."

• The Growth: Satyavrata placed the fish in a small jar. Overnight, the fish grew so large it didn't fit. He moved it to a pond, then a lake, then the Ganges, and finally the ocean. In every water body, the fish outgrew its space within hours.

• The Revelation: Realizing this was no ordinary creature, Satyavrata bowed down. Lord Vishnu revealed himself and warned the King that in seven days, a massive flood would submerge the entire world.

The Great Deluge and the Rescue

Lord Vishnu instructed Manu to build a massive ship and gather:

1. The Saptarishis (Seven Great Sages).

2. Seeds of all plants and pairs of all animal species.

3. The Vedas (The divine knowledge).

When the clouds burst and the oceans rose, Lord Vishnu appeared as a Giant Golden Fish with a single horn. Manu tied his ship to the fish's horn using the serpent Vasuki as a rope.

Defeating Hayagriva: Protecting the Wisdom

While the world was flooding, a demon named Hayagriva (not to be confused with the god Hayagriva) stole the Vedas from Lord Brahma while he was sleeping.

పూర్వం కృతమాల నదీ తీరంలో సత్యవ్రతుడు అనే రాజు తపస్సు చేసుకునేవాడు. ఒకరోజు ఆయన నదిలో అర్ఘ్యం వదులుతుండగా, ఒక చిన్న చేప ఆయన దోసిట్లోకి వచ్చింది.

• చేప విన్నపం: "రాజా! నన్ను తిరిగి నీటిలో వదలకండి, పెద్ద చేపలు నన్ను మింగేస్తాయి. నన్ను రక్షించండి" అని ఆ చేప వేడుకుంది. 🐟

• అద్భుత వృద్ధి: రాజు ఆ చేపను ఒక పాత్రలో వేశాడు. అది మరుసటి రోజుకే ఆ పాత్ర నిండా పెరిగిపోయింది. బావిలో వేస్తే బావి నిండిపోయింది, చెరువులో వేస్తే చెరువు, చివరకు సముద్రంలో వేసినా సముద్రమంత పెరిగిపోయింది.

• విష్ణు దర్శనం: ఆశ్చర్యపోయిన సత్యవ్రతుడు, "స్వామీ! మీరు సామాన్య జీవి కాదు, ఎవరో తెలియజేయండి" అని ప్రార్థించగా, శ్రీమహావిష్ణువు ప్రత్యక్షమై.. ఏడు రోజుల్లో రాబోయే మహా ప్రళయం గురించి హెచ్చరించాడు.

వేదాల రక్షణ - హయగ్రీవ సంహారం

ప్రళయ సమయంలో బ్రహ్మదేవుడు నిద్రపోతుండగా, హయగ్రీవుడు అనే రాక్షసుడు వేదాలను దొంగిలించి సముద్ర గర్భంలో దాక్కున్నాడు. వేదాలు లేకపోతే కొత్త సృష్టి జరగడం అసాధ్యం.

• మత్స్యమూర్తిగా విష్ణువు సముద్ర గర్భంలోకి వెళ్లి, ఆ రాక్షసుడిని సంహరించి వేదాలను తిరిగి తీసుకొచ్చాడు. ⚔️

ప్రళయం నుండి ప్రయాణం

సత్యవ్రతుడు భగవంతుని ఆజ్ఞ ప్రకారం ఒక పెద్ద నౌకను సిద్ధం చేసుకున్నాడు. అందులో సప్తరుషులు, సకల ప్రాణికోటి బీజాలు, ఓషధులను ఉంచాడు. ప్రళయ కాలంలో వాసుకిని తాడుగా చేసి, ఆ నౌకను మత్స్యమూర్తి కొమ్ముకు కట్టి సురక్షిత ప్రాంతానికి చేర్చారు. ఆ సమయంలోనే భగవంతుడు సత్యవ్రతునికి "మత్స్య పురాణం" బోధించాడు.
